Inspired by the December 2018 revolution in Sudan, a group of Sudanese-American Professors signed statements in early 2019 supporting the revolution and its objectives of freedom, peace, and justice. In the following months, this group came together to form an ad-hoc committee, draft bylaws, and call for the first meeting of the Association of Sudanese-American Professors in America (ASAPA). The organization was legally incorporated in the state of Texas, and the Office of the Secretary of the State issued it an official certificate of formation on March 29, 2020.
