Professor of Practice at ASU
Dr. Abdelrahman Shuaib is professor of practice in mechanical engineering at Arizona State University since August 2015. He has a combined 40 years professional experience in industry (five years as production engineer and factory manager) and 35 in academia. His teaching and research areas include manufacturing and quality engineering, materials science and engineering, design innovation and product development, and capstone design courses in. He is also involved in maintenance engineering and environment, health and safety. He served as PI in 13 research and educational projects and co-PI on 10 projects, with total funding exceeding $3.0M. Shuaib developed, coordinated and taught in 28 continuing education courses to engineers from industry, which cover several areas including conventional manufacturing processes, computer aided manufacturing, failure analysis, welding, safety, material selection in mechanical design, etc. Shuaib has been actively involved since 2008 in a collaboration program between King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), through the Center for Clean Water and Clean Energy at MIT and KFUPM. He was principal and co-investigator in three education projects aimed at enhancing design content in engineering departments and to develop multi-disciplinary Capstone Design projects based on design innovation and product development. Shuaib is a co-investigator and member of the Faculty Consulting Board of the newly established Industrial Assessment Center at ASU, which is funded by Department of Energy (DOE).
