Dr. Abbas has a 20-year record of leading teams and managing projects to solve problems in the areas of Transportation Systems Management and Operations, Driver Behavior, Traffic Flow Theory, and Traffic Simulation/Optimization. His key expertise areas include Control, ITS Planning and Evaluation, Transportation Modeling, Data Analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and System Optimization. Dr. Abbas has wide experience, including the development and implementation of real-time control algorithms and field studies. He has demonstrable experience with a diverse range of data collection approaches and data sets that provide information about Driver Behavior and Vehicle dynamics, including but not limited to Naturalistic Driving Data Study, speed data including vehicle, driver and environment inputs, Connected Vehicle Data, Video automated data reduction results, On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) data sets, Human Factor-related data, and Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures. He has authored over 180 refereed publications and 3 book chapters.
